Bio

Carl Doedens is a PhD student at the University of Melbourne. His project is investigating clouds and aerosols in Australia and how these modulate incoming solar radiation, and thereby influence solar energy production potential. As a part of this, Carl is interested in exploring methods to forecast near-term surface solar radiation changes, and the long-term climatology of surface solar radiation. This research also has the potential to be applied to help train and calibrate statistically driven climate models, and reduce the biases and uncertainties in dynamically driven earth systems models. Cloud feedbacks are currently one of the largest uncertainties in future climate projections, and so this work is highly applicable to solving some of the biggest problems in climate science.
