Winter School 2024
21st Century Weather has joined forces with Climate Extremes to host our first winter school. Not surprisingly, we chose to talk about the weather.
About 60 students and ECRs from all over Australia converged on Monash University for a week to hone their skills in key concepts of how weather and climate work and interact. Lecture topics ranged from the theoretical concepts that describe the evolution of individual weather systems to their interaction with large-scale modes of climate variability as well as the role of weather as a resource for society. Participants also had the opportunity to discuss and predict the weather across the word through practical weather chart discussion labs.
The last day was spent at the Bureau of Meteorology. Who better to go to to learn about the weather? And then there were the great social interactions involving pizzas, games of dodge ball and so much more. A great thank you to all that made this event the success it was. In particular we’re grateful for the team efforts of staff from Climate Extremes, 21st Century Weather, and Bureau of Meteorology who looked after the participants so well.
