Bio

Nilusha Perera previously served as a Lecturer at Uva Wellassa University of Sri Lanka, specialising in agricultural engineering, environmental modelling, and climate risk assessment. She holds a Master of Philosophy in Climate and Hydrological Modeling from the University of Colombo, Sri Lanka and a BSc (Hons) in Agricultural Resource Management and Technology from the University of Ruhuna, Sri Lanka She is currently a PhD candidate at the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS), University of Tasmania. Her research investigates multidecadal hydroclimatic variability in southeastern Australia, with a particular focus on Tasmania as a distinct and under-studied region. Using instrumental records and palaeoclimate proxies, she examines how large scale climate drivers, including the Interdecadal Pacific Oscillation (IPO), atmospheric blocking (Tasman Sea, Great Australian Bight, and southeast Indian Ocean), El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO), Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD), and Southern Annular Mode influence rainfall variability and extremes.
