Graduate Colloquium: WCRP Hackathon
We are excited to announce the ARC Centre of Excellence for 21st Century Weather will take part in a kilometre-scale global Hackathon.
The Hackathon is a World Climate Research Program (WCRP) Digital Earths activity, and will promote global collaboration by sharing best practice in process-based analysis of km-scale simulations.
21st Century Weather will lead the Australian node of the global Hackathon at the Australian National University, Canberra, from Monday 12 May to Friday 16 May.
We will be joined by at least ten other nodes around the world. Each node will host many scientists working around a common set of weather and climate data and tools, as well as focusing on region-specific scientific challenges and approaches.
The hackathon will broadcast results and discussions in real time. One any given day, one of the various international nodes will be in charge of directing proceedings, including Australia.
Our involvement in the Hackathon will constitute our Graduate Colloquium for 2025.
The Graduate Colloquium was previously known as the Winter School. As a globally active research centre, we are moving away from naming events after seasons to increase access and understanding among our globally dispersed members and collaborators.
About the Graduate Colloquium
The Graduate Colloquium is a cornerstone of 21st Century Weather’s Training and Leadership Program. We want graduate students to gain highly specialised knowledge in their own area of research, as well as a broad understanding of the wider discipline. These events provide this opportunity.
The theme changes each year, and shifts from broader, widely relevant topics to more tightly focused subjects requiring prerequisite knowledge. This year we will hack, find bugs, fix bugs, communicate and collaborate with scientists from around the world to further our understanding of weather science.
Apply to attend
Applications are now open, with priority given to 21st Century Weather graduate students and research fellows. Please complete the form below to express your interest in attending. Applications close on Friday 7 February 2025.
